We have had some fun already this year looking back at 50 years of Derrick Companies. You may have noticed this photo posted earlier on social media, but here is one of the best “Throwback” photos we have come across, yet. Mike Derrick on the hood of a Derrick Construction truck in 1978.

To some of us, 1978 doesn’t seem so far in the past. To others, it’s ancient history.  What was going on in the world in 1978?

  • A gallon of gas cost 63 cents.
  • The average cost of a new home was around $54,000
  • The year end Dow Jones Industrial Average was 805
  • The movie Grease opened that summer
  • After the oil crisis, Japanese import cars account for nearly half of car sales
  • We were “Stayin’ Alive” with the Bee Gees

The one thing that hasn’t changed is the hardworking commitment of the Derrick Family and the entire team at Derrick Companies. We look back with respect to those that have helped build Derrick Companies into what it is today and excitement about what the next 50 years will bring.
